Although Shirley Page originally concentrated on oil painting before taking up watercolour for a number of years, she only took up painting ‘seriously’ after her retirement, at which time she resumed oil painting. She now paints exclusively in oils.
Shirley has attended workshops and demonstrations with numerous artists such as Alvaro Castegnet, Greg Turner, John Wilson and Doug Sealey. She particularly enjoys painting snapshots of people in everyday situations, such as playing at the park or beach, shopping or relaxing in the sun. She also enjoys portraiture, but says she paints ‘pretty much everything but flowers’.
Shirley is a long time member of the Marion Art Group and says painting totally absorbs her. She loves the constant challenge presented when trying to represent three dimensional images on a two dimensional surface, putting in the highlights and shadows which make her paintings come alive.
